Hot Tea, Chill Smoothie:

Two Recipes

broken image

With spring just around the corner in the Northern Hemisphere, half of the world is well on their way to warmer weather; and for those in the Southern, cooler days are ahead with the approach of fall. One of many favorite things about doTERRA® is that it’s a delightfully global company, catering to a family of essential oil users all over the world! With the diversity of our seasonal experiences in mind, let’s focus in on two healthful and tasty beverage recipes that will help you get your daily taste of dōTERRA in all seasons.

It’s tea time! Something great about tea is its versatility: served over ice in the heat or in a steaming mug when it’s cold outside, tea can always be a pleasant vehicle for good things. Our first recipe includes Turmeric, an essential oil you can expect to see spotlighted in depth later this month. For now, all you absolutely need to know is that this curcumin-filled oil carries powerful internal benefits, along with a subtle herbal flavor that is especially popular in traditional South Asian cuisine.

To make Turmeric Tea, you’ll need:

• 1 cup coconut milk

• 1 cup water

• 1 tablespoon honey

• 1 tablespoon butter, ghee, or vegan butter substitute

• 1-2 drops Turmeric oil

• Turmeric spice for garnish

• Ginger oil (optional)

Heat coconut milk and water in a saucepan on low heat for three to four minutes. Add butter, honey, and Turmeric essential oil, stirring until butter melts and ingredients combine. To crank up the spice and heat level, include a drop of hearty Ginger essential oil. Pour mixture into mugs and add a pinch of turmeric powder as a garnish, if desired. Serve hot and enjoy.

This tea’s creamy texture is courtesy of natural fatty acids in the coconut milk and butter (or butter replacement), and is enhanced with the sweet, soothing touch of honey.

Now we move on to a beverage that is historically newer, due to its dependence on frozen ingredients and a blender. Smoothies are well known as a delicious, convenient way to get in your fruits and vegetables for the day. Many a mom and dad has offered a cool smoothie to a picky eater, hoping to slide the healthy stuff into a package acceptable to said picky person.

While I can’t guarantee your results, this smoothie bowl recipe may be the beginning of something beautiful for the choosy eater in your life.

To make a Raspberry Smoothie Bowl, you’ll need:

• 2 cups frozen raspberries

• 2/3 cup light coconut milk

• 1 large frozen banana

• 2-3 drops Lime or Grapefruit oil

• 1 tablespoon chia seeds

• Shredded coconut

• Shaved dark chocolate

In a blender, combine frozen fruit, coconut milk, chia seeds, and your citrus essential oil of choice. Puree until mixture is smooth. For desired consistency, add more frozen fruit to thicken up or more water or coconut milk to thin it out. If you stop here, you’ll enjoy a great smoothie; but to turn it into a delicious plated breakfast or snack, pour mixture into a bowl and top with shredded coconut, shaved dark chocolate, and any other desired toppings.

When it comes to creative toppings for this smoothie bowl, think low-sugar granola, more fresh fruit or seeds, etc. Now we’re talking! And to kick the nutritional value of the smoothie up even further, try adding a handful of spinach or other leafy greens before blending.

Warm or cold, beverages enhanced by your dōTERRA lineup give you even more reasons to feel good about these healthy choices. Enjoy!
